Profile Toko-pa Turner Flow Festival Artists for Water After a poignant address given by Maude Barlow in the Kootenays, a powerful council of women formed to advocate for the public stewardship of our Water. A joining of voices across BC protesting the sale of rivers to Independent Power Producers has resulted in a precedent-setting success at Pitt River. Women on Wild Water is mobilizing to do the same for the endangered Glacier/Howser Creek (and others), with an exciting event called the Flow Fest. Flow Fest is a multidisciplinary arts & music festival scheduled for September 12th & 13th in Nelson and Valhalla, made up of world-class artists, musicians, youth, Wisdom Keepers and educators from across B.C. and Canada, raising their voices for Water. Rather than simply counter-reacting to the goldrush sale of over 500 B.C. creeks and rivers to corporations, Flow Fest calls forward the possibilities of the future by using ART as an ACTivating medium. By exploring our creative responses as a community, Flow Fest not only engages the public's voice where it has been silenced, but commissions its artists and visionaries for new narratives on Conscious Energy Production. In preparation for the big event, Flow Fest is having a fundraiser/auction on June 28th at 7pm at the Hume Hotel in Nelson, BC. Emceed by Michelle Mungall, the evening will have live music, performances, refreshments and a bevy of great auction items, including original artwork, jewelry, clothing, getaways, treatments, outdoor gear, health products and much, much more. Flow Fest envisions groups and individuals of all kinds coming together to keep water in the safe stewardship of the people, protect the ecosystems through which water flows, and to promote conscious water use. Flow encourages neighbouring communities to get involved as there are plenty of opportunities to contribute, including as satellite locations on our Flow Motions tour.
